Mesh on this grid

You can bring your own 3D work in here. This page says how that works, what it costs, and where the line is, because the line matters more here than in most places.

Geometry you built somewhere else

Most of what you see inworld is built from simple shapes, joined and stretched until they look like something. Mesh is the other way round: you model it in a program like Blender, export it, and bring the finished shape in. That is how almost everything detailed gets made, and it is open to you from your first day here.

Anyone, once they have done one thing

Every account level may upload mesh. There is no tier you have to buy first. The one thing we ask is that you pass a short quiz about intellectual property. Eight questions, retry as often as you like, no fee, and once you have passed it you never see it again.

Why there is a quiz at all

Because content travels, and we cannot call it back

This is the part worth saying plainly. Skimi Grid is on the Hypergrid, which means people visit from other worlds and take things home with them. That is the point of the Hypergrid and we would not want it any other way. It also means that once something is uploaded here and passed on, it is gone. We cannot recall it, and neither can you.

The quiz is not a hurdle we put in your way. It is the one moment where somebody can still ask “are you sure this is yours” before the answer stops mattering. That is the whole reason it exists, and it is why we would rather have fewer honest things here than a full grid of stolen ones.

What “yours” actually means

Three ways people get this wrong

Almost nobody sets out to steal anything. People get caught out by three things that look fine and are not.

01
Licence

Buying a model is not the same as being allowed to upload it.

Most marketplaces licence you to use a model in your own renders or your own game. Uploading it into a virtual world where other people can copy it is a different right, and most licences do not include it. Read what you bought.

02
Provenance

“I found it on the internet” is not a licence.

A file being downloadable says nothing about what you may do with it. If there is no licence text, assume the answer is no.

03
Trademark
a different law

Brands and logos are a separate problem entirely.

This one catches people who did nothing wrong on the copyright side at all. If you model a car of a real make, or put a real sportswear logo on a shirt, every polygon may be your own work and it is still a trademark you do not hold.

Copyright asks
Who made this shape
Trademark asks
Whose name is on it

They are different questions and you have to pass both.

If you are unsure about something, ask before you upload rather than after. Nobody here will think less of you for asking.

What it costs, and why

The weigh-in

Uploading costs SK$. A normal upload, an image or a sound or an animation, costs SK$ 10. A mesh costs that as a floor and more on top, according to what it weighs.

That surcharge is not a way to take your money. A heavy mesh is not just heavy for you: everyone who walks past it has to load it, and it costs them frame rate whether they wanted to look at it or not. The price is the honest signal for that cost. It is the only thing standing between a grid that runs and a grid full of million triangle furniture.

What the scale measures is not file size. It is streaming weight: how much data has to travel to a viewer to draw your object at the distance it is being looked at from.

What makes an upload cheap and good

The same things that make it cheap make it better

This is worth understanding, because it is not a trick and there is nothing to game. The two goals point the same way.

Give it levels of detail

A viewer draws a simplified version of your object when you are far away from it. If you do not supply those simpler versions, the viewer has no choice but to stream the full one to everybody at every distance. That is expensive for them and expensive for you, and it is the single biggest difference between a cheap upload and a costly one.

Give it a sensible physics shape

The shape people bump into does not need to be the shape they see. A chair can be a box to walk into and a chair to look at.

Do not upload one enormous piece

A building split into parts loads progressively and can drop detail where nobody is standing. A single hundred thousand triangle block cannot.

None of this is specific to us. It is how mesh works everywhere, and a grid that charges honestly for weight simply makes it visible.

The amber bar never gets shorter. Everyone downloads the full shape at every distance, including the people who can barely see it, and you pay for that on the way in.

If something is wrong

What happens then

If something here turns out not to belong to the person who uploaded it, we take it down. Not as a punishment and not with a lecture, but because it should not be here. If it is your work that has been taken, write to us and say what it is and where it came from. You do not need a lawyer to do that and we do not need one to act on it.

Rules with no consequence are decoration. This is the paragraph that makes the rest of the page mean something.
