OpenSim · Hypergrid

Worlds, rebuilt from the code up.

skimi3d is an OpenSim grid we're rebuilding from the source, not a stock install. Connected to the Hypergrid, open to visit, and shaped by everything happening inworld.

What this is

A grid, built differently.

01

Not stock OpenSim

We open the source with Clyde and rebuild the parts that matter. The grid grows on purpose, not by default.

02

Open on the Hypergrid

Arrive from any Hypergrid-enabled world. It's small and mostly ours right now, and visitors are genuinely welcome.

03

Everything is made inworld

Scripts, regions and photography are built inside the world, then surfaced here. What you see is what's actually running.

The market

Put a folder in. This is what comes back.

Drop what you made into one folder inworld and press read. The grid opens every piece, checks that you made it, and measures the rest. You add a price, a sentence and a picture.

Nothing below was typed by the seller.

A marketplace vendor standing in a shop inworld
Photoland/standing there now
Inworld

The same article, standing in a shop.

You never put a copy in a vendor. It is an empty shell that asks the grid what to show · your picture, your price, the rights, your shop name. Change the price on the website and every vendor carrying that article knows a second later.

  • It costs nothing to put up, and there is no limit on how many
  • One article can stand in twenty vendors, and there is still one of it
  • A guest from another grid can buy it and take it home
Groundwork

Plant a forest at one land impact a tree.

Most OpenSim grids count every object as one, however heavy it is. This one weighs: a mesh tree you bring along costs what it really weighs, usually twenty to forty land impact. The plant tool is the exception. It has been spawning the same plants since 2004. We kept the tool and replaced what it plants: 16 of our own, one land impact each. Nothing to install · it is already in your build menu, and planting with it is a good hour.

Pine 2

Pine 2

tree

A tall conifer with a dense, narrowly conical crown and dark green foliage that extends nearly to the ground. Pine trees work well as windbreaks, privacy screens, or focal points in larger landscapes where their height can develop freely without crowding from nearby structures.

Not for Not suitable for tight spaces or small residential gardens where their mature height would dominate the area.
Cattail

Cattail

grass

Cattails with their dark brown velvet heads, for the wettest ground of all: ditches, pond margins, the still corner of a lake. They stand stiffer than reed and read from further away because of the heads. A few among a band of reed is more convincing than a stand of them alone.

Not for Too distinctive to repeat often · a wall of cattails looks stamped.
Marram grass

Marram grass

grass

Stiff grey-green dune grass for sand and dry poor ground. It is the plant that makes a beach look like a coast rather than a sandbox, and it takes a lot of wind because nothing shelters it out there. Plant it in straggling lines along the crest of a dune, thinning towards the water.

Not for Looks starved on good soil · use meadow grass there instead.
Scripts

LSL scripts, straight from inworld.

Clyde writes small, useful scripts inside the world. We publish them here. Copy one, drop it into a prim, done.

The Sector Delta arcade cabinet inworld
Sector Delta/anyone can run one
The economy

A jackpot nobody can reach into.

There is an arcade cabinet on this grid. Anyone can put one up, set what a game costs and how much of it goes into the pot. The pot is held by the house: the operator cannot spend it, and neither can we.

When the time is up, it pays itself out to whoever is top. Nobody presses anything. Switching a machine off pays the pot first, so it cannot be packed away the night before payday.

Costs
The operator sets it. Zero means free to play.
The pot
Held in escrow, out of reach of both sides.
Payout
Automatic, to whoever is top when the clock runs out.
